Project Title

Synergies and Disconnects in the Delivery of Mental Healthcare

Description

Good health and well-being are one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals mentioned by the United Nations to “transform our world”. One area that is often unaddressed and overlooked is mental health. No other health condition matches mental illness in the combined extent of prevalence, persistence and breadth of impact. My thesis research focuses on mental health and its relation to non-communicable diseases, limited to the urban healthcare system in Sindh. I study this in the context of delivering healthcare services that involve various stakeholders with different priorities, such as the government, aid organizations, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, and other institutions. This thesis explores the priorities and ascertains synergies between different stakeholders, explores the real disconnects, and looks at the impacts of the commercialization of the healthcare industry.
